This is a blog about my Ride (not Race) Across America from Costa Mesa, CA. to Amesbury MA. April 21-May 22, 2103 for my 50th Birthday with videos, pictures and commentary. I encourage my family and friends to post comments, questions and, especially, encouraging words (one can never get enough encouragement ;). If you want to find older posts to catch up on what I've been up to during the ride, go the to bottom of the page and pull down the "Blog Archive" menu.

Ride Calendar
Well, we're down to the final week before I leave. Here is what the ride calendar will look like.
WOW...There's nothing trivial at all about this Ride Across America - lots of miles everyday with plenty of climbing and of course a mixed bag of weather conditions. Keep in mind some daily reminders: good qualities calories, hydrate hydrate hydrate, lots of rest and stay off your feet as much as possible when you're not riding. I can't wait for the April 21st launch. This will be the ride of your life.
You got that right Scott. Please keep my boo in your prays. I am just a bit nervous because of how fast they do this and we really don't know the impact on the body. Mark has trained hard and done everything he is suppose to do but man this is something else. Thanks for the good advice to him
Boo you can do anything you set your mind too. Mostly, I want you to have fun, enjoy nature, and just to reflect on the blessings of life and God. Take your time, breathe deeply and know that I love you more then any human on this earth. I will miss you deeply and thank God I am busy so time will go by fast. Love Sandy
Thanks, babe. I love you too! Yeah, I have to focus on having fun and not on how fast (or slow) I am going. Keeping up with the calories may prove to be the hardest. It will be a great way to see the country though. I will miss you too between eating, sleeping and pedaling ;) Hopefully, 'nature' will be in our favor for a majority of the ride with nice weather and a wind at our backs. It seems like all the training rides I did I was dealing with a lot of wind though so if any comes up, I should be used to it.
That day in Missouri with the 6800 feet of climbing --- I know that part of the state, and it's all tandem rollers. If you can carry speed down one side, you'll get at least half of that climbing pretty much for free as you work down through the gears.
Have fun, and don't be shy about having dinner at least twice. :-)
Thanks for the tip. Yeah, I don't really like rollers very much. Its hard to get into a decent cadence/rhythm. There were a bunch north of Malibu when I did the Grand Tour last summer and trying to keep up with the Tandem that was pulling me was impossible. Thats partly because I didn't have a big enough gear on my touring bike so I was constantly spinning out on the downward slopes and I'd work like made to catch 'em on the upward slopes. I'll take any climbing I can get for free though ;)
