This is a blog about my Ride (not Race) Across America from Costa Mesa, CA. to Amesbury MA. April 21-May 22, 2103 for my 50th Birthday with videos, pictures and commentary. I encourage my family and friends to post comments, questions and, especially, encouraging words (one can never get enough encouragement ;). If you want to find older posts to catch up on what I've been up to during the ride, go the to bottom of the page and pull down the "Blog Archive" menu.
Mark, there's nothing like Death Valley during the month of October. Seeing those photos brings back a mixed bag of memories from the 2011 Furnace Creek 508. By the way, I hear the Furnace Creek 508 calling for your application in 2014.
I'm waiting anxiously for your RAAM. How are you feeling waiting for the big launch on April 21st?
hey Scott, well I am both excited and nervous. It will be great to get underway but it's also going to be really tough at times. In spite of all the training I have done to get to this point I know there are going to be major challenges to complete this ride. I think perhaps the biggest one maybe nutrition. A conservative estimate of calorie intake is 6000 to 8000 calories per day.it is going to be very difficult to get all that in every day but failing to do so mean loss of muscle which I can't afford either. the Clovis big hat century last weekend was a very good test for me and it went very well.I did some unfamiliar climbs on that ride and pushed hard and everything went fine. At hour 4 I did go through a low in energy and leg strength but that came back about an hour later.
